The Marksmen

What follows is a shameless plug for a new social group geared toward visual artists who are members of the Facebook community. The group is called “The Marksmen”, and yes, I’m a member, because I can make some pretty crazy marks.

[SinglePic not found]The go to person for this forum is fine artist & illustrator Sean Chappell. Posted in the article is a sample of his most recent work. He has this to say about the intentions for creating the group:

“The Marksmen” is an online resource for Facebook affiliated visual artists. It is the goal of this group to be a place where artisans working in traditional media can come together, display their artwork, exchange ideas and make connections with other artists. As humans we support a dichotomous life system, one based in both body and mind. The definition of “traditional media” is confined to art which supports the mind/body connection, work such as drawing, painting, sculpture etc. The mark making capabilities of the body working with the cognitive functions of the mind make for the most honest, talented and communicative artwork on the planet. For this reason, media such as photography and digital work will not be supported by this group. Cameras and computers remove the body from the process of making art. While digital and photographic work can be both communicative and artistic, for the purposes of this group their merits will not be considered.

This group is probably for you if you:

1. enjoy making marks directly with your hand with traditional mediums (no technology except for reproducing final work for display purposes)
2. are passionate about what you do
3. can be incredibly opinionated
4. love bashing minds with others
5. are looking for support, or
6. all of the above.

It’s new and waiting to see how it will evolve.
