Dear Readers of “Ule the Unfurled”
When I first began writing Ule the Unfurled, it began as a small project — a novella to be precise — something that I would offer for free on my website. However, since last February 2009, my thoughts and feelings about the project have shifted.
As a story goes, it has stopped being a novella and blossomed into a novel. Consequently, I’m putting more work into this story than I originally intended and my care for the project has grown. Offering it for free on my website doesn’t feel right to me anymore. Since my desire is to become a professional writer, selling this manuscript to a publisher is a more appropriate step to take, and I may be preventing that possibility by publishing the story on the Internet.

“House of Scratch” Yard & Bake Sale Fundraising Event
Weather permitting has been something of a catch phrase this summer. Sick of the rain yet? I certainly am. For two weekends, Sean and I have been planning a yard and bake sale to raise money to reduce the cost of hosting House of Scratch’s inaugural physical group exhibition only to cancel due to the weather.
According to weather predictions, Saturday, August 1, 2009 promises to be a good day, where hopefully everyone who has been hiding in doors to avoid getting wet will finally emerge to get some fresh air and sun.
So… Without further ado… The House of Scratch Yard & Bake Sale Extravangaza will be held…
August 1 (Saturday): 7am to whenever – weather pending!
2-276 Gilmour Avenue (Toronto, ON)
We have a great mix of items on sale, some new, some gently used. Among the big ticket items are an electric guitar and amp and a lonely snare drum looking for a drum kit to call home. There will be various housewares, childrens toys, arts and craft supplies, books, videos, and PC video games, not too mention baked goodies. Yum! Also available will be raffle tickets for an original Sean Chappell original.
To anyone in the Toronto area, hope to see you there!

An Update on “Ule the Unfurled” – Feb 2009
The writing of Ule the Unfurled has slown down. Unfortunately, working a semi-full time temp job, along with further development of House of Scratch, takes time, which leaves me with an hour or two in the evenings to write, study writing, research and develop plot, characters and ideas.
Although it would be nice to work a little faster, that will come with practice and persistance. The most difficult part about learning discipline is doing something regardless how awful you might feel or how much you want to sleep. Just so you know, I’m getting much better at the discipline. No matter how busy it gets in life, I’m sitting down more frequently at the computer in the evenings, even if all I get out from my muse is a paragraph or two.

New Painting, New Look
Over the past several years, since developing a technique that involves building form on top of ink blown lines, I’ve been playing with composition possibilities, as well as a whole lot of experimenting with fusing two techniques in a way where they’ll work work well with one another. At last, some success!
