Summer Vacation
© Cathrene Gehue, 2008.
Posts have been infrequent due mostly to the onset of summer. It’s time to get out there, move around and smell the fresh air. (As fresh as it can get in Toronto; today is certainly NOT one of those days!) Basking in the sun is another favourite past time. Snakes do this! Apparently spiders too.
Speaking of spiders…
In Nova Scotia, there is an old highway–the oldest road in Canada perhaps–that runs the length of the Annapolis Valley. At the very end of this road, there is a tiny beach on the Bay of Fundy. At the time I visited, the tide was out, leaving behind a rocky beach. The sky was an unblemished sea blue and the sun bright golden white. You could see straight across the bay to New Brunswick and the United States, the air was that clear.
Upon taking a step on the beach, the vibration went through the ground, up through all the rocks, sending hundreds of spiders scurrying under them. When the stillness returned, the spiders crawled back out from the shadows and sat beneath the sun. It was simultaneously fascinating and creepy to watch, creepy in only the way nature (the real world, if you ask me) can be.
Speaking of Nova Scotia…
It’s vacation time, and I’ll be visiting family out east for a good ten days. I need a break from the computer, from writing, and until my return this blog will remain dormant. No new posts for a while. When I come back to it, my mind should be fresh and rejuvenated. I have several projects on the go, some of them large and time-consuming, and possibly a new direction for the blog to go.
I hope you are taking advantage of the summer. If not, please reconsider. Spend some time outdoors away from the tv and computer. Put down whatever is the latest game system. Put away your cell phones, ipods, and hand-held electronic devices. Go out and explore the real world where nature abounds, then get back to me. I’d love to hear about what you saw there.
