New Painting, New Look

Over the past several years, since developing a technique that involves building form on top of ink blown lines, I’ve  been playing with composition possibilities, as well as a whole lot of experimenting with fusing two techniques in a way where they’ll work work well with one another. At last, some success!

Although my experminentations haven’t fully realized themselves yet (I’ve done about five mountainscapes so far), this one by far has resulted in the success I was hoping for.

This version was designed and intended as the new header for Imagination Unbound, and after warming up the colours a bit better in Photoshop, it certainly is more compelling than what was previously on display.

In the gallery version of the image (see thumbnail above), the subtle colours in the heavily striated sky are difficult to see, but the results are a step in the right direction. The multi-directional flow of the colour-saturated, smooth organic-like mountains are set off by the texture of a stiff, linear sky shimmering in subtle hues of pinks, yellows and pale green.

Because the image called for a specific proportion, I blocked the picture plane in black, creating a panoramic view… similar to watching a widescreen film on a television screen.

So this is the new look for the blog, until I’m inspired again. If you have any comments or feedback, I’d love to hear them.

I’m not sold 100% on the sky but I really like the mountain scape. I have to say I really like what you do with the ink blown technique!!

Thanks for the feedback regarding the mountains. As for the sky, well, I do intend to continue with this stylization. We’ll see what the future brings! :)
